Defend the Four lobby of Unison headquarters

In June 2007, the Unison bureaucracy launched a disciplinary investigation into five union officers. They were attacked for daring to print and publish a leaflet criticising the union leadership for blocking the union conference's right to debate issues such as the funding of the Labour Party, the election of full time officials and control over strike action.

Four of the five under investigation - all Socialist Party members - are now facing a disciplinary hearing. These are: Glenn Kelly, national executive member, Onay Kasab, Greenwich branch secretary, Suzanne Muna, Housing Corporation branch secretary and Brian Debus, Hackney branch chair. Onay Kasab ('Kaz') spoke at the opening rally of the Socialist Party's Socialism 2008 weekend.

Campaign for a New Workers' Party conference

On Sunday 29 June 2008, 300 people filled the main hall in South Camden Community School in London to round off a very important weekend for the labour movement in Britain and to address the central question facing workers in Britain today: How can we fight for a working class political voice?

This third conference of the Campaign for a New Workers' Party (CNWP) had the opportunity to assess the stage the campaign is now at, and to debate a number of resolutions that were put forward.

The conference was preceded in the morning by a debate between different left currents, on the way forward for the left and the fight for a working class political voice. the following videos cover four contributions to these important discussions.

After the recent Committee for a Workers' International (CWI) Congress, Siri spoke to a CWI Rally about the situation in Sri Lanka.

SIRITUNGA JAYASURIYA, secretary of the United Socialist Party (CWI Sri Lanka) SIRITUNGA JAYASURIYA, secretary of the United Socialist Party (CWI Sri Lanka) and some associates in the 'United People's Movement' escaped with their lives when over 300 armed thugs, led by a deputy minister, raided the place where a public rally was due to be held 9 January in Colombo.

Save Huddersfield NHS Campaign

Socialist Party member Dr Jackie Grunsell was elected a councillor for the Save Huddersfield NHS campaign in the May 2006 elections.

Jackie received 2,176 votes, a majority of over 700, on a turnout of over 49%.

She explains the success of the campaign.
