Council pay fiasco
The fiasco of the local government pay claim for 2008/9 has ended with an additional 0.3% awarded following ACAS arbitration, bringing the total award up to 2.75%.
This award came after the unions had submitted their claim for 2009/10. It follows a successful two day strike in July last year.
The union leaders are now facing two ways about whether 2.75% is a good settlement or not for public sector workers. Last year they unsuccessfully attempted to reopen pay talks for NHS workers, on the basis that the 2.75% rise was insufficient, but now they have welcomed 2.75% for local government workers!
